After how many failed pregnancies are miscarriages regarded as recurrent?

There is no world consensus on this definition. The UK’s Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists defines recurrent miscarriages as the loss of three or more consecutive pregnancies in the first trimester (as verified by an ultrasound), while the American Society for Reproductive Medicine reduces that number to two losses. However, there is an international consensus that medical examinations should begin after two clinical pregnancy losses, especially if they are consecutive.
