What is the Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome? How is it treated?
It is an endocrine/metabolic disorder characterised by the presence of multiple ovarian cysts on the ultrasound scan, irregular cycles and an excess of male hormones resulting in hair in body parts where men typically have it, acne and excessive hair loss. It is important to have it diagnosed and treated, since, in addition to conditioning fertility disorders, it increases the risk of suffering from type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cholesterol disorders. Treatment always includes dietary and physical activity guidelines, complemented by a variable pharmacological treatment, depending on each case.
