A study performed by Instituto Bernabeu assesses whether it is preferable to perform freezing or fresh transfer following embryo biopsy
12-09-2018
Research performed by Instituto Bernabeu has looked into whether fresh transfer or deferred transfer through cryopreservation followed by defrosting is the best strategy for carrying out pre-implantation genetic diagnosis for aneuploidies (PGT-A).
The research’s main author, biologist Jorge Ten, points out that biopsies are currently carried out in blastocyst stage (embryo on day five or six) and a chromosomal analysis is performed using array CGH or next-generation sequencing (NGS) techniques. The research work, which has been submitted to the Spanish Fertility Society (SEF), compares clinical results in PGT-A cycles using the two strategies over a three-year period.
The Instituto Bernabeu research concludes that both techniques are valid. A total number of 420 fresh transfers and 269 cryotransfers of euploidy embryos were performed and the number of successful pregnancies were similar in both fresh transfer and in cryopreservation.
