Dr Blanca Bayoumy, gynaecologist specialised in reproductive medicine at Instituto Bernabeu Cartagena, recently took part in the series of conferences on “Planning, Pregnancy, Breastfeeding, Parenting and Diabetes”, organised by the Murcia Association for Diabetes Care (ADIMUR in Spanish).
Diabetes is a common pathology whose incidence has been increasing in recent years, and some of the factors related to its onset during pregnancy may be family history, weight or maternal age. “Advising women with diabetes during this period can help to avoid maternal and foetal complications in pregnancy, which is the main concern of these women and of the doctors who follow them during the process,” says Dr Bayoumy.
For pregnant women who face the added challenge of diabetes, it is essential to maintain strict control of blood sugar levels, following the guidelines and recommendations provided by their medial team. This may involve regularly monitoring glucose levels, adjusting diet and physical activity as needed, and closely following any changes in medication.
This event is focused on women with gestational, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and includes other professionals such as María López, psychologist and ADIRMU youth coordinator; Inmaculada Llopis, nutritionist; and Miriam Sánchez, breastfeeding counsellor.
