The study of a woman’s pelvis floor is currently identified as a specific area of knowledge within the Gynaecology and Obstetrics specialty, due to the fact that it is a field that has experienced significant development. This is mostly because of the great deal of knowledge that has appeared over the last 10 years about the pathophysiology and function of the pelvic floor and its organs, as well as the emergence of new drugs and modern diagnostic and surgical techniques for treating urinary incontinence and genital prolapse.
