The Official Association of Dieticians and Nutritionists of Murcia (CODINMUR in Spanish) has organised this weekend a multidisciplinary conference to which Dr ana Fuentes, gynaecologist specialising in reproductive medicine and Instituto Bernabeu’s Low Ovarian Reserve Unit coordinator, was invited as a speaker.
Dr Fuentes participated in a round table together with nutritionist María Fraile where she highlighted the importance of adopting good eating habits to improve both spontaneous fertility and the results of assisted reproduction treatments.
“Diet plays a key role in reproductive health,” Dr Fuentes stressed, as “it can, not only influence the ability to conceive naturally, but can also enhance the effectiveness of assisted reproduction treatments”. In this sense, she explained that a balanced and adequate diet can have a positive impact on hormonal regulation and the quality of eggs and sperm, essential aspects for achieving a successful pregnancy. She also stressed that a healthy diet can contribute to improving the symptoms of gynaecological diseases, many of which can be disabling and, in some cases, lead to infertility.
“It is important for people who want to conceive to pay attention to their diet and adopt healthy habits,” Dr Fuentes recommended. “A diet rich in fruits and vegetables, lean proteins and healthy fats can be beneficial for both fertility and overall health”.
