Professor Emeritus of Haematology, within the Department of Clinical Medicine Miguel Hernández University.  Haematology and Haemotherapy Group Main Investigator of the Institute of Biomedical Research of Alicante (ISABIAL), in the University General Hospital Dr Balmis of Alicante, both positions since October 2021.

He has been Professor of Haematology (2011-2021), and Head of the Haematology and Haemotherapy Service at University General Hospital Dr Balmis in Alicante (2014-2021).

4 six-year research periods accredited by ANECA.

He studied Medicine at the University of Granada, obtaining an outstanding degree in 1975.  MIR specialist in Haematology and Haemotherapy at the University of Valencia, he obtained a post at the University General Hospital of Alicante in 1980.

Doctorate in Medicine in 1987 from the University of Alicante.

His professional orientation within Haematology has been in the area of Haemostasis and Thrombosis, of which he was Head of Section until 2014 in the Haematology Service of the University General Hospital of Alicante.

His healthcare, teaching and research activity has focused on the study of thrombophilias, prophylaxis and treatment of venous thromboembolism and ischaemic heart disease.  Another important area of work is in Acquired Haemophilia, being an active member of the European Acquired Haemophilia Study Group (EACH-2), as the Spain representative.  In both areas he has more than 110 publications in international and national journals and several book chapters. He also teaches several Master courses related to research in thrombosis and haemorrhagic diseases.

He is currently principal investigator in 7 clinical trials in the area of thrombosis and haemophilia.

He has been president of the Thrombosis Commission of the Univeristy General Hospital Dr Balmis in Alicante.

From 2004-2012 he has been President of the Spanish Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (SETH), and participates as an active member in different SETH working groups. He has a wide participation in symposia and scientific meetings as a speaker, and as a teacher in training courses in Thrombosis and Haemostasis. 

Member of SAISE (group evaluating high impact drug therapies in Haematology and Oncology), of the Conselleria de Sanitat, Comunitat Valenciana. 

He has also been Vice-President of the Spanish Society of Haematology and Haemotherapy (SEHH), between 2014-2020.

He currently continues to teach at the Faculty of Medicine of the Miguel Hernández University and carries out research work at the Biomedical Research Institute of the University General Hospital of Alicante.
