Dr. Bernabeu highlights the role of reproductive medicine for women to make informed and free decisions in the newspaper Diario Información.

The director of Instituto Bernabeu participated in the event ‘Influential women in the province of Alicante’ organised by the Alicante newspaper together with other professionals in education, business and health.

Dr. Andrea Bernabeu, Bernabeu’s director, highlighted at the event ‘Influential women in the province of Alicante’, organised by the newspaper Diario Información on the 6th March, the importance of women being informed in order to be able to make decisions about their reproductive future with freedom. At this meeting, held at the Club Información, the doctor shared the stage with many prominent women in education, business and health, three main pillars of society.

In her speech, Dr. Bernabeu highlighted the key role of reproductive medicine in women’s decision-making, allowing them to choose when and how to become mothers. She underlined how this speciality responds to new family structures and the increase in women who wish to know their ovarian reserve or preserve their fertility for the future.

‘We have more and more couples of women or women who do not have a partner and choose to take the path of motherhood alone as a decision of their own. But we also find, increasingly, young women who want to know how they are doing reproductively, i.e. their ovarian reserve, and who decide that now is not the time to become pregnant, but they do want to in the future, and therefore decide to freeze their oocytes,’ said the doctor, who stressed that, ultimately, “reproductive medicine has to accompany women according to their wishes”.

She also stressed the importance of eliminating taboos about motherhood, differentiating between those who choose not to become mothers and those who face difficulties in becoming mothers. In this sense, she concluded her speech by highlighting the importance of women ‘having access to honest, transparent and realistic information about their fertility’ in order to ‘achieve true freedom of choice’.

From Instituto Bernabeu we would like to thank Diario Información for the opportunity to participate in this interesting meeting.
