The cancer diagnosis has a great impact on the life of those who suffer from it and can generate uncertainty about how it affects their reproductive possibilities.
Instituto Bernabeu doctors Alicia Herencia and Lydia Luque recently spoke to ABC newspaper about their extensive experience in this field and how we, at Instituto Bernabeu approach each case in an individualised manner, focusing on each patient.
Whether the person is about to start cancer treatment and wishes to become a mother or father after finishing it, or whether they have already overcome the disease and wish to become pregnant, the Instituto Bernabeu team will attend to each specific need, providing answers at each stage and applying cutting-edge treatments, tailored to each person’s needs.
In addition, through the Rafael Bernabeu Foundation, Instituto Bernabeu’s Social Work, we support those suffering from gynaecological cancer. We offer free oocyte preservation prior to cancer treatment, in order to recover the possibility of becoming a mother after the therapy, including ovarian stimulation, oocyte collection and subsequent freezing and storage, so that after the healing of the breast lesion she can opt for motherhood.
We also offer male patients their sperm freezing prior to their cancer treatment, assuming the entire cost of the process of preservation and custody of semen.
Thanks to the ABC newspaper for counting on our specialists to address such an important issue for our society.
