Instituto Bernabeu addresses IVF laboratory efficiency at the Born x Life Merck specialists meeting
March, 31st 2022
As part of the continuous training of its team and the contribution of its knowledge through participation in congresses, Instituto Bernabeu has just been present at a regular event for specialists, the Born x Life meeting organised by Merck. On this occasion, the director of the Embryology Unit of Instituto Bernabeu, Dr Jorge Ten, participated in this meeting held in Barcelona on 30 March with the presentation: Towards a more efficient laboratory.
Dr Ten warns that efficiency in the IVF laboratory is based on three aspects: “the training and experience of the professionals, the use of proven protocols and working guidelines, and the use of appropriate equipment and technologies that optimise the final result: a healthy baby at home. All of this while offering our patients a reasonable and balanced economic cost”.
Another aspect highlighted by the specialist is the technologies applied in the laboratory. “We could classify them as complementary techniques and as new emerging technologies, but do they increase the efficiency of the laboratory,” says the director of the Embryology Unit. In his presentation, Dr Ten presents evidence on the current use of these technologies, emphasising the need for prospective controlled studies that guarantee their safety and efficacy so that they can be marketed with guarantees.
In his final presentation, the expert spoke about Instituto Bernabeu’s experience in the use of new technologies, showing how the use of Geri® time-lapse incubators has increased efficiency in the laboratories in several ways, mainly in the quality of the embryology team work.
