Instituto Bernabeu celebrates the Science, Youth and Fertility Conference 3rd Edition

About thirty Vocational School students took part in this initiative.

Instituto Bernabeu, following its commitment to education, opened its doors to celebrate the third edition of the Science, Youth and Fertility Conference. This event, organised within the framework of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, held last week, allowed thirty students to discover first-hand the world of research and reproductive medicine.

On this occasion, CIPFP Canastell Vocational School students from San Vicente del Raspeig had the opportunity to explore the Instituto Bernabeu’s facilities and laboratories in Alicante. During the visit, they learned about the processes and technologies that make fertility treatments possible, explained by the nurse and laboratory technician María Marco, as well as the professional opportunities in this constantly evolving field.

The students received explanations from professionals specialised in different fields. Embryologist Dori Rodríguez guided them through the In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) laboratory, where the eggs fertilisation is carried out outside the woman’s body before implantation.

For her part, Dr Ruth Morales, pharmacist and director of the Genetic and Reproductive Counselling Unit, showed the IB Biotech molecular biology laboratory, where key advances in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of hereditary diseases are developed.

The visit also included a stop at the andrology and clinical analysis laboratory, guided by Dr Ana Fabregat, where students were able to learn about the technologies used to investigate infertility and offer personalised solutions to patients.

STDs and gamete donation

Another of the highlights of the day was the presentation on the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and the Instituto Bernabeu donation programme, presented by the biologist Eva García and the laboratory technician Marina Sánchez, from the Egg Donation Department. On the one hand, the students were able to understand the importance of sex education, which is key to avoid infections. They also learned about the donation service, which allows many people to become parents thanks to the generosity of donors.

With this initiative, Instituto Bernabeu reaffirms its commitment to scientific dissemination and the training of future generations of health professionals.
