Dr Ruth Morales will present her study on the euploid miscarriages genetic causes at the SEF congress

The Spanish Fertility Society (SEF in Spanish) has selected as an oral presentation a study by Dr Ruth Morales, from Instituto Bernabeu, on the identification of possible genetic causes in euploid miscarriages by exome sequencing.

The study, which has been carried out with the aim of shedding light on early miscarriages of idiopathic origin, has identified new candidate variants in genes associated with different foetal abnormalities, which supports their involvement in embryonic/foetal development and lethality. “Through exome sequencing we can identify a possible genetic cause in miscarriages of unknown cause, which could have a clinical diagnostic application,” explains Dr Morales.

This study results could, in the future, change the usual clinical practice in the case of women who suffer miscarriages. “If the woman suffers a miscarriage, this technique is an additional test that could be performed to find the origin, having first ruled out other causes,” explains Dr Morales. “It could be implemented in the near future,” she adds.
