Natural cycle endometrial preparation has the same pregnancy rates as preparation with medication

- A study led by Dr Cristina Gavilán has shown that there is no difference between the two methods
- The natural cycle is more physiological, which may improve implantation and pregnancy rates
Dr Cristina Gavilán, from Instituto Bernabeu Palma de Mallorca, will give an oral presentation at the Spanish Fertility Society (SEF in Spanish) congress entitled “Modified natural cycle vs. Hormone Replacement Therapy in egg donation cycles: results of a multicentre study”.
In this presentation, Dr Gavilán will present the results of a joint study of the Instituto Bernabeu clinics in Madrid, Alicante and Palma, in which the results of endometrial preparation in a natural cycle were compared with endometrial preparation with medication in egg donation cycles.
The aim of the study was to demonstrate that natural cycle endometrial preparation is not inferior to endometrial preparation with medication. In fact, the results showed that natural cycle endometrial preparation is comparable to endometrial preparation with medication, with similar results in terms of pregnancy and live birth rates.
This study will offer many advantages for patients undergoing oocyte donation treatments, as natural cycle endometrial preparation does not require patients to take as much medication, which may reduce side effects and treatment costs. In addition, the natural cycle is more physiological, which may improve implantation and pregnancy rates.
“The study results confirm the growing evidence that natural cycle endometrial preparation is a safe and effective option for patients undergoing egg donation treatments,” says Dr Gavilán, who points out that “Instituto Bernabeu already offers natural cycle endometrial preparation on a regular basis to its patients“.
