Frozen oocytes keep the chances of success in assisted reproduction treatments intact

Embryologist Nuria Ruiz from Instituto Bernabeu will present at the SEF congress the results of a study, in which other colleagues from Instituto Bernabeu have participated, investigating the impact of oocyte vitrification on chromosomal aneuploidy rates and clinical outcomes in oocyte donation cycles.
The study, which has been conducted retrospectively in 303 oocyte donation cycles with a total of 1,191 biopsied embryos, concludes that the embryonic euploidy rates and clinical outcomes are comparable in both fresh and vitrified oocytes. “These results are very important because they allow us to ensure that oocyte vitrification is not detrimental to the patient in terms of embryo quality or the chances of successful treatment,” explains Nuria Ruiz.
Furthermore, this research opens the door to greater use of oocyte vitrification in oocyte donation cycles, as it facilitates synchronisation between donor and recipient without compromising pregnancy rates. “Oocyte vitrification is a very useful technique for women who wish to preserve their fertility for different reasons, such as prevention before undergoing cancer treatment or to postpone motherhood,” says the embryologist. “This study confirms that vitrification does not affect the chances of success of an oocyte donation treatment,” she concludes.
