WHY IS FREEZING MY EGGS IMPORTANT?
Women are born with all oocytes they will have for the rest of their lives. The ovarian reserve, therefore, is gradually lost between puberty and menopause, which hampers the chances of pregnancy, especially after the age of 35.
For this reason, and although there is no age limit to opt for oocyte cryopreservation, the recommendation would be to do so before the age of 35 if you wish to postpone motherhood. This way, you will able to have a sufficient number of oocytes which, in addition, are of optimum quality to be used whenever you decide to use them.
WITH THE SAME NUMBER OF OOCYTES, A WOMAN UNDER THE AGE OF 35 WILL HAVE A 50% OR HIGHER CHANCE OF PREGNANCY.
The eggs quality, at least in terms of genetics, is closely linked to the woman’s age.
At the age of 35, 70-80% of embryos have a correct chromosomal endowment, whereas at 41 – 42 years of age this percentage is reversed and up to 80% of embryos may have some chromosomal alteration, which hinders the probability of becoming pregnant and increases the miscarriages rate.
Therefore, if a woman freezes her eggs as soon as possible, her risk of miscarriage remains frozen and, if she wishes to have children at the age of 40, she will do so with similar chances to when she froze her eggs.
