An Instituto Bernabeu study investigates whether the starting day of stimulation after ovarian puncture has influence in double stimulation cycles

Does the stimulation starting day after ovarian puncture influence double stimulation cycles? This is the title of one of the 18 research papers presented by Instituto Bernabeu at the 33rd Congress of the Spanish Fertility Society (SEF).

The aim of the study was to compare the number of oocytes obtained in the luteal phase of double stimulation cycles according to the number of days between the first oocyte collection and the start of the second stimulation (0-2 days, 3 days, 4 days and 5-6 days).

The study was conducted over four years on 534 double stimulation cycles. Despite finding no differences in the number of follicles and oocytes obtained, the researchers observed that the number of fertilised eggs and blastocyst stage embryos was lower in those patients who started stimulation earlier than three days after the first puncture.

The research suggests that patients may benefit from starting stimulation as early as the third day after ovarian puncture, and note further studies are needed to support these findings.
