An Instituto Bernabeu study reveals that ovarian stimulation in luteal phase improves the follicular phase results in double ovarian stimulation cycles (DuoStim).

Instituto Bernabeu presented a study at the Spanish Fertility Society (SEF) congress with the aim of analysing the differences between conventional ovarian stimulation in the follicular phase and ovarian stimulation in the luteal phase in a double ovarian stimulation protocol. The analysis included 536 patients who underwent a double ovarian stimulation cycle. Oocytes were vitrified in the first collection and after the second oocyte retrieval, sperm microinjection and embryo culture were performed until blastocyst development (day 5-6). The study revealed that a greater number of oocytes and blastocysts were recovered in the luteal phase than in the follicular phase. At the same time, it is noted that the DuoStim strategy can be considered particularly interesting for patients with poorer prognosis.
