Our colleague, Dr Ana María Fabregat Reolid, head of clinical analysis at Instituto Bernabeu Biotech, participated as moderator of a round table at the 12th Scientific Conference of the Society of Immunology of the Community of Madrid (SICAM in Spanish). This event, held on 27 and 28 September 2024 in the aula magna of the Hospital Universitario Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda, brought together around 300 researchers, teachers and clinicians from Madrid to discuss the latest advances in the field of immunology.
The round table, entitled ‘Non-Classical Antiphospholipids’, was a high point of the event, where Dr Fabregat shared the experience with Dr Antonio Serrano, who was the keynote speaker, and Dr Óscar Cabrera, who also acted as moderator. ‘It was a pleasure to participate in such an interesting and enriching dialogue,’ said Dr Fabregat, who thanked the organisers for the quality of the event.
This year, SICAM has extended its Meeting to two days, with scientific sessions on Friday and an opening to patient associations on Saturday. In addition, the day included a special initiative to invite students from a local school, giving them the opportunity to learn first-hand about the fascinating world of the immune system.
Advances in immunotherapy and the integration of artificial intelligence in clinical protocols were central topics of discussion, highlighting the importance of interdisciplinarity in immunology. With presentations by experts and prizes for the best papers, SICAM seeks not only to promote research, but also to recognise the professional work of immunologists in the Community of Madrid.
